Response from Andreja Pejic To Miroslava Duma’s Transphobic Outburst

Andreja Pejic

Introduction

Andreja Pejic is a model and actress who has been working for over a decade. She’s been featured in campaigns for brands such as Versace, Calvin Klein, and L’Oreal Paris. She was also on the cover of Elle Magazine’s November issue this year and won a VH1 Fashion Award for Best New Artist at the age of 20.

In an interview with Time Out Dubai magazine earlier this month, Duma made some transphobic remarks about Pejic that caused outrage online: “I think it’s really unfortunate that we live in times when someone like that can use their position to promote themselves.”

Andreja Pejic Responded To Miroslava Duma’s Transphobic Remarks

In response to Miroslava Duma’s transphobic remarks, Andreja Pejic said: “I think it’s important that we all try to be positive and supportive of one another. We’re going through some really tough times right now, but I think that as long as you have someone by your side who cares about you and will listen when you need them, then everything will be fine.”

The model went on to say: “I think it’s important that we all try to be positive and supportive of one another. We’re going through some really tough times right now, but I think that as long as you have someone by your side who cares about you and will listen when you need them, then everything will be fine.”

Every story, so the saying goes, has two sides. There are four in this instance, though. The fashion world went crazy on Tuesday after blogger and founder of Future Tech Lab Miroslava Duma shared a picture of a fashion show invitation from her friend and designer Ulyana Sergeenko on Instagram. Not for any other reason than the fact that Sergeenko used language from the Kanye Jay Z smash in Paris to refer to Duma as the N word. The conclusion was unanimous and the receipts were plain to see: Wait, what? More controversy from Duma’s background surfaced after Sergeenko made a statement, deleted it, and then made another. This time, model Andreja Pejic and blogger Bryan boy were included.

Decency To Apologize

To think about a statement like that being made, it’s offensive to me because I’ve had to overcome so much in my life.

It makes me angry that someone can say something like that and not have the decency to apologize. It’s just so disappointing, especially when you know how hard it is for people who are Trans or non binary or intersex and how many different identities there are out there. That’s why we’re here: We want equality for everyone including those who don’t feel represented by society at large right now.”

“I’m here today to tell you that you can use whatever pronouns you want. I don’t care if people use him, her, them, or any other pronoun because it doesn’t matter. You’re always going to be treated the same way as everyone else.” Duma refers to Bryan Boy as “strange” and misgenders Pejic twice in the video, which has been uploaded by other industry figures. She goes on to say that both should be banned and won’t be included on Buro 247, her website for fashion and lifestyle. Duma responded to both issues by posting messages on her Instagram after receiving criticism from the industry, including Bryan boy, who claimed to be surprised by the video and reminded his followers that racism and prejudice are not OK. She had disabled comments on both posts and 1.6 million followers as of the time of publication.

There Is No Reason For Anyone To Be Transphobic

You are right. There is no reason for anyone to be transphobic.

Trans people have overcome so much adversity, that it’s hard to believe that anyone would want to discriminate against them. They’re just as human and beautiful as any other person! And when you look at the history of gender roles, it’s clear that there are not only many ways in which gender identities can be expressed but also different types of expression within those categories (e.g., masculine/feminine).

So if we want our society to truly be more inclusive, then I hope we can work together on this problem instead of resorting back to old patterns that keep people separated from each other based on their genitals or chromosomes which has been done before by many different groups throughout history but most recently by Nazis during World War II.”

I think it is important to remember that transphobia doesn’t just hurt Trans people. It hurts everyone because it encourages a culture of hatred and division. And when we look at the history of gender roles, it’s clear that there are not only many ways in which gender identities can be expressed but also different types of expression within those categories (e.g., masculine/feminine). So if we want our society to truly be more inclusive, then I hope we can work together on this problem instead of resorting back to old patterns

Conclusion

The takeaway here is that there is no reason for anyone to be transphobic. We need to encourage more people to read about transgender people, listen to their stories, and support them. The next time you see someone who’s being transphobic, try talking with them about how you feel about being discriminated against because of your gender identity or expression you may find that they’re just as open minded as yourself! Pejic continued by summarizing the admiration and support she has received from the industry, regardless of her gender, which has resulted in numerous fashion firsts for transgender actors, activists, models, and more. And she considers herself fortunate to have remained. We hope Duma, like Pejic, has grown from her mistakes and broadened her perspectives, especially in an industry that serves as a haven for people who have been shunned by society because they have been persuaded that being different is uncool. It’s crucial to keep moving forward, as Pejic says. “I won’t say that it wasn’t painful. But rather of concentrating on this egregious stupidity, I couldn’t help but notice how different our industry is now from how it was in 2012, the year this film was made.”
